St. Matthias School

St. Matthias School believes every student deserves a well-rounded education. A rigorous curriculum of core classes is complemented by specialty classes in music, art, physical education, and technology.

To reach every student, teachers use the differentiated instruction program to meet the individual needs of every student.  Special programs like the Writer’s Workshop strengthen a student’s academic performance while broadening a student’s understanding of the subject matter — and how to express it.  Plus, they have fun learning!

As a Catholic school, faith not only is a core class but embedded in every part of the entire school environment and school day. Faith and Christian values are implemented into all subject matter. Students participate in weekly Mass and various faith-building activities. Teachers and staff model and instill strong moral character in all students.

A wide variety of extracurriculars and student leadership opportunities allow students to take classroom learnings and apply them to real life situations.

Both Safety Cadets and STAR Partners, for example, encourage students to work together and build the leaders of the future.

As Nick Reppen, a graduate of St. Matthias, said so eloquently, “St. Matthias Parish School truly is a place of excellence. Not only did the faculty and staff fully prepare me academically for high school and beyond, but they genuinely cared about me and nurtured me emotionally and spiritually as well.”

St. Matthias Parish School is proud to prepare students both academically and spiritually for their future education and for life.

St. Matthias Parish School Mission

St. Matthias School offers a rigorous academic curriculum and strongly prioritizes within it the ability to learn and live the faith. This results in Catholic Christian values being integrated into all curriculum areas.

St. Matthias School strongly emphasizes communication and literacy skills inside and beyond the classroom. It offers multiple reading programs for students, including the Scholastic Reading Counts Program, Battle of the Books/WEMTA, and Reading Incentives Programs sponsored by Six Flags and Rocky Rococo. In addition, students participate in Forensics and the Writer’s Workshop.

Teacher credentials, and their involvement and commitment to a student’s success, make for a dynamic learning environment. St. Matthias is known for its close-knit school community and strong parent network supporting all efforts made to educate and nurture a student’s moral, spiritual, and emotional compass.

In alignment with the Wisconsin Department of Instruction standards, the curriculum follows the Archdiocese of Milwaukee guidelines and new Seton Catholic Schools enhancements.

St. Matthias prides itself on its “Faith First” approach. Students learn about the Catholic faith and traditions in daily religion classes. This instruction permeates the entire school culture, as students are taught to live by the Gospel values and act with love towards all their neighbors.

Students frequently have the opportunity to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. All-school Mass is held weekly, and many of the students are altar servers. Students also participate in prayer services, the Living Rosary, Stations of the Cross, and the Advent Wreath Blessing.

Project Lead The Way is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education curricular programs used in schools. St. Matthias is proud to have implemented the Project Lead the Way – Gateway program in its 6th through 8th grade classes.

This hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels, exposing them to areas of STEM-related study. It’s an activities-oriented curriculum exploring aerospace, energy, the environment, modeling, robotics, technology, and other STEM-related topics.

Designed to spark an interest in STEM subjects and prepare students for further study in high school, the program also has a track record of providing students with a foundation and path to college and career success.

St. Matthias proudly offers an expansive extracurricular activity roster for students to experience, including a well-developed parish Athletic program.

Musical opportunities abound at St. Matthias school. They love music. Students have a variety of extra musical opportunities including musical groups like youth choir, band, and bell choir. Academic extracurriculars range from fun events like Jammie Night (Parent-Student night where everyone wears pajamas and listens to older students read stories) to forensics and beyond.

Physical activity is important to building strong lives. Five sports are sponsored by the St. Matthias Parish — Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball and Track. All are designed to enhance a student’s character, health and well-being.

Ultimately athletics and extracurriculars allow students to apply and expand classroom learnings, build camaraderie, and inspire students to work together.
